First of the Come Walking Series 2023  of walks:

Geenmount, Affetside & Two Brooks

On a dull and chilly evening thirty walkers set out from behind Greenmount Church and headed along Larkfield Close into Greenheys Close, and up to Old Kays Park. After crossing Turton Road we joined a footpath that took us through the trees and into the fields. For once there was no mud or cows in Yeoman’s Field, so we soon arrived on Watling Street and headed up into the village of Affetside, where we spent some time learning about the history of the old stone cross.

We then retraced our steps back to The Park Horse and made our way down the cobbled track, at the side of the pub, that leads to Turton Road. Once across the road we joined a footpath at the side of the cottages and headed through the field in the direction of Burnt House Farm. After climbing over a couple of stiles we descended into Bottoms Hall wood where the site of the bluebells was truly magnificent.

From here it was just a short distance through Hollymount and back to Greenmount, having covered 4.5 miles.
