Come Walking Series of Walks: Ramsbottom, Carr Street Woods and Stubbins.
Tonight’s walk started from Ramsbottom Railway Station, where twenty-seven walkers made their way up Bridge Street and on to Carr Street. On reaching the Rose and Crown Pub we joined the path, on the right, just before the pub, and walked along the narrow footpath, called Cutter Lane, to the Old Mill Hotel.
Once passed the hotel we walked along Kibbon Crew, a lane that eventually leads into Ox Hey Wood, where we made the difficult descent into the hamlet of Higher Stubbins. We continued along the track, through the hamlet and on to the tentering tower, that could be seen through the tree on our left.
Several of our walkers climbed up to the tower, before continuing along the track to The Cliff, where after climbing over a stile we walked down into Buckden Wood.
After crossing the footbridge, we turned right and walked down into Strongstry, where once we had gone under the railway bridge we joined a footpath on our right that followed the river Irwell into Stubbins, and back into Ramsbottom having covered a gentle 3.5 miles.
