5 miles circular walk
Meeting: 6.10pm at Lumb Car Road Car Park back for 8.30pm.
Route: Owing to the very wet evening the route was altered to a Wood and Valley walk instead of a Moorland Walk.
Original route through Holcombe Village past the Riding for the disabled centre, over the cattle grid up to as far as the bench where we left the moorland , turned right down footpath passing United Utilities water catchment plant, before crossing Helmshore Road and down footpath opposite.
After a few metres turned left to go down steps through deep gorge down to the Rose and Crown on Carr Street. Left after next row of houses to front of The Old Mill Hotel, following track before taking footpath bearing right alongside hedge into Top Wood then to track through Ox Hey wood to Higher Stubbins.

Continuing straight on track passing a row of stone cottages and following stone wall. Through the tree we could see the Tentering Tower. Passing the back of Lavender Hills Care Home, we entered Buckden Wood. Once over the bridge we turned right down to Strongstry then following the banks of the Irwell to Stubbins.

Crossing the footbridge, we then turn right, crossed the road to the lane opposite, at the bend we took the footpath right through the fields and down Kenyon Street to Ramsbottom. Passing the station we followed the road straight on towards Cormar Carpets, but instead of going over the Irwell we turned right up through Church Fields to Bolton Road, then up Dundee Lane to take cul de sac off to the left after Dundee United Reformed Church.

At the far end we went straight on up the steps into Tag Wood and followed path back to car park having covered 5 miles.
