Walk Reports – Summer 2021
Friday 23rd July 2021
Come Walking Series: Kirklees Valley, Summerseat and Woodhey
Yet another glorious Friday night brought 40 walkers out to enjoy the late evening sunshine. Because of the large numbers we were forced to split into two groups one going in a clockwise direction the other anticlockwise. The report follows the clockwise route with the walkers heading in the direction of Greenmount Golf Course and turning right at the bottom of Hove Close following the footpath through the fields crossing Bolton Road and onto Redisher Lane.
Once in the woods and across the bridge we turned right and followed the path down to Holcombe Brook crossing the main road and heading along Woodhey Road and into Holcombe Woods. We were surprised to see that the brook was only a trickle, a reminder of the hot summer.
Turning right at the bottom of the valley we made our way through Summerseat and into the hamlet of Wood Road following the track up to Longsight Road where we had good views of Peel Tower on our right. After crossing the road, we took the track towards Moss Farm and into Kirklees Valley where we joined the trail at Tower Farm and headed back to Greenmount having covered 5 very sociable miles.
