John Turner’s Cave Walk 6th February 2017

THE WALK THAT PASSED JOHN TURNER’S CAVE 6th FEBRUARY 2017

John Turner’s Cave

Long Walk

Eight walkers enjoyed a bright crisp February day on Holcombe Moors. Our first aim was to finish what the bad weather prevented us from doing on the January walk, that was to find John Turner’s Cave. John Turner was a local gentleman and industrialist born in 1811 who lived at Nabbs House in Greenmount and built the cave for his Gamekeeper. From the cave we retraced our steps to Red Book and continued on towards Quarlton Heights, Longshaw Head, Barons Farm and down to Hawkshaw and finally to Greenmount, all without experiencing any rain.
