Monthly Short Walk: Four Cafes Walk
The first of our four cafes was The Hub, in Greenmount where we started our walk by heading down the Kirklees Trail as far as Shepard Street, where we turned left and made our way to Tower Farm, which was covered in scaffolding. Continuing around the tower we crossed over the brook and walked down to Kirklees Street, where we turned left at the Wishing Stone.
After re-crossing the brook, we headed up the Kingsbury Wood, where we turned right at the kissing gate and made our way through the wood to Garside Hey Road. Once on the road we turned left and walked into Brandleshome where we turned into Burrs Close and joined a narrow footpath that took us into Burrs Country Park.
The second of our cafes, The Lamppost was to be found in Burrs and to our surprise it was now open on Mondays.
Our route then followed the River Irwell, which was fast flowing due to the heavy rain, and the footpath was much easier to walk along, as it had recently been repaired.
We followed the river all the way to our third café, at Summerseat Garden Centre, which looked to be well attended judging by the number of cars on the car park.
After passing through Summerseat we headed up Robin Road to the bottom of Holcombe Valley and started the steep climb through the valley up to our fourth and final café, The Bower, recently opened in the village of Holcombe Brook.
Once across the main road we turned right into Park Road and onto Redisher Lane and made our way back to Greenmount over the golf course having covered 7 caffeine fuelled miles.
