MONTHLY SHORT WALK
GREENMOUNT, REDISHER WOOD AND PILGRIMS CROSS
Eight walkers took our familiar route out of the Old School onto the golf course and through the fields to Redisher Woods. Once in the woods we enjoyed the cool air under the trees before turning right up the steep path that leads onto the Ridge where we turned left, in the direction of Red Brook, passing the site of the new Holcombe Heritage dig, on Cinder Hill.
At the end of the Ridge we climbed up to Moor Bottom Road and headed for the path that leads to Pilgrims Cross where we stopped to admire the views and get our breath back.
As the red flag was not flying we then entered MOD land and took the obvious path up to the summit, and trig point on Bull Hill. From here we could see the devastation caused by the moorland fires on Winter Hill and reminisced about the walk we did only a few weeks earlier which took us over the hill.
Our task on the other side of the hill was to locate the best position for a way-marker to direct walkers onto an alternative path and away from MOD land when the red flag is flying.
