GREENMOUNT VILLAGE COMMUNITY WALKING GROUP

SPRING GUIDED WALKS   MARCH to MAY 2023

All are welcome, no membership required, come regularly or just occasionally on these free guided walks.  You are advised to wear appropriate clothing and hiking boots.  We will walk even if it is raining!

There are plenty of stiles and several steep inclines.  Sorry no dogs.

Northern Countryside walk

Meeting Place: Greenmount Old School BL8 4DS

Time Out: 8.40.am

Time Back: 12.30pm

Route: Greenmount, Boardmans, Red Earth,

Redisher, Greenmount.

Distance: 6 miles

 

MONDAY 13th MARCH

First of Pikes and/or Trig. Points

Meeting place: Spenleach Lane, Hawkshaw BL8 4JA
(Spen Leach Lane is the road to the Army Camp)

Time Out: 8.40am

Time Back: 3.30pm

Route: Lark Hill, Toby, Whowells

Hog Lowe Pike, Alden Ratchers, Pilgrims’ Cross

Distance: 12 miles

 

WEDNESDAY 22nd MARCH

First of the River Irwell and its Tributaries

Meeting Place: Summerseat Waterside Road,BL9 5QL

Time Out: 8.40am

Time Back: 3.30pm

Route: Holcombe Brook to its moorland source, John Turner’s Cave

–   back via Buckden Wood brook and River Irwell.

Distance: 12 miles

Bass House, Nuttall, Summerseat Greenmount.

Distance: 6 miles

Second of Pikes and/or Trig. Points

Meeting Place: Turton Tower BL7 0HG

Time Out: 8.40am

Time Back: 3.30pm

Route: Turton Tower following WPW to Longworth Clough,

– returning via Dunscar, Eagley & Torra Barn.

Distance: 11 miles

 

WEDNESDAY 26th APRIL

Second of the River Irwell and its Tributaries

Meeting place: Edenfield, Exchange St.BL0 0JZ

Time Out: 8.40am

Time Back: 3.30pm

Route: Edenfield, following Dearden Clough stream beyond Waugh’s Well,

back via Whittle Pike, New Gate Brook to Stubbins then Edenfield.

Distance 12 miles

Route: Edenfield, Irwell Vale, Musbury Brook to the moors

back via Alden Brook to the Irwell and back to Edenfield.
